Ogham Stones

These two ogham stones are located in Ballinvoher medieval church graveyard. Both of the stones are hidden from view by the numerous amount of vaults in the graveyard. The first one pictured right is a cross inscribed ogham stone. It stands 0.94 metres high and 0.27 metres wide. The ogham inscription has suffered some damage but reads S(I)D(A)N(I) MAQQ(I) DALA. The west face bears a cross in a circle with an extending shaft that forms part of another cross below and above the circle. The second stone, pictured below, lies prostrate on the west side of another tomb. This sandstone rectangular stone is 1.3 metres in length X 0.33 metres wide and 0.12 metres thick. There are two suggested readings for the inscription

LLONNOCC MAQQ(.......... and

SONNOCC MAQQ(.........

Situated: From Annascaul head east on the N86 after 3 kilometres turn left for Flemingstown. Then after 600 metres turn left at the crossroads. The graveyard is 500 metres down here. at the next bend.
